1. How do I submit our organization for your group listing?
Fill out the online application form for your organization, providing us with the information required in each field. Once you have submitted the application form you will be provided a user name and password within two business days.
2. How do I post information about our events?
Enter your User Name and Password information in the Login page. This will allow you to fill in information about a community event you are hosting. Once this information is submitted, the NorthOkanagan.ca delegate will review your request. You will be notified by email whether your submission was accepted or denied. For a period of six months you will be required to submit the information to the NorthOkanagan.ca delegate, after which time you may be granted access to posting the information yourself. The NorthOkanagan.ca delegate will continue to monitor for content.
Please note: the community calendar is limited to events the community is welcome to attend. Events such as private meetings will not be included on the calendar.
3. What type of organizations are allowed to post information?
Government, non-profit groups, clubs and businesses of the North Okanagan are welcome to be listed on our site.
4. Can I advertise a sale or event for my business or personal profit?
At this time the North Okanagan Community Portal will not post information that generates money for for-profit organizations. Should you wish to advertise your event, you are asked to take out an ad in the local newspaper.
5. I’m a realtor, can I advertise my Open House?
Open Houses cannot be advertised on this site at this time. Should you wish to advertise your event, you are asked to take out an ad in the local newspaper.
6. The North Okanagan Community Portal links to a newspaper. Why do you link to their business?
The Community Calendar links to the local newspaper in order to point to their classifieds section where events such as Garage Sales are located. We are not recreating the information, nor are we accepting money for advertising for these events on our site. We are simply pointing people in the right direction.
7. I have information from my site I would like on the portal. Is that okay?
We are not looking to recreate data that already exists, our mandate is to point people who come to the website in the right direction. We will provide a link to your site under the directory, but we will not post information other than your website address or community calendar event information (see question #3 and #4) on our site.
8. What kind of material is appropriate?
Information posted on the North Okanagan Community Portal is for public viewing and therefore must be appropriate for the public. The NorthOkanagan.ca delegate reserves the right to: not publish or reference any site or material that may in its view violate the Human Rights Code of British Columbia or the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child. When in doubt, the NorthOkanagan.ca delegate will use their discretion.
9. What kind of material is not appropriate?
Anything that violates the above mentioned will not be allowed on the site.
10. Who are the managing partners?
At this time, the three partners who own and manage this site are the City of Vernon, District of Coldstream and Regional District of the North Okanagan.
11. Does the portal compete against private sector business?
The North Okanagan Community Portal is not a money generator. We do not compete with private sector business. We will link to your site but we will not recreate your information nor generate money from the use of your site.
12. Will you sell my personal information?
Any information you provide to us will be kept confidential under the Privacy Act. We will not share your information nor generate income from the sale of any information pertaining to you
